🌍 India Endorses US-Russia Summit in Alaska: A Step Toward Peace in Ukraine
New Delhi, August 10, 2025 — India has officially welcomed the upcoming US-Russia summit scheduled for August 15 in Alaska, where President Donald Trump and President Vladimir Putin are set to meet in a high-stakes dialogue aimed at ending the ongoing war in Ukraine. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a statement citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s consistent message: “This is not an era of war.”
🤝 A Diplomatic Milestone
This will be Putin’s first visit to the United States since 2015, and the first presidential-level US-Russia meeting since 2021. The summit is expected to focus on long-term peaceful resolution strategies for the Ukraine conflict, which has persisted since Russia’s invasion in 2022.
“India welcomes the understanding reached between the United States and the Russian Federation for a meeting in Alaska on 15th August 2025,” the MEA stated. “This meeting holds the promise of bringing to an end the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and opening up the prospects for peace.”
🔁 Territorial Talks and Global Reactions
President Trump hinted that the peace deal could involve territorial exchanges, a proposal that has drawn criticism from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who reiterated that Ukraine’s territorial integrity is non-negotiable.
Meanwhile, the Kremlin confirmed its commitment to engage “actively and energetically” in the summit, describing the process as “challenging but necessary.”
🇮🇳 India’s Strategic Position
India’s endorsement of the summit comes amid rising tensions over its energy imports from Russia, which led to a 25% tariff hike imposed by the US earlier this week. Despite this, India remains committed to supporting diplomatic efforts that promote global stability.
“India stands ready to support these efforts,” said MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.
