📰 PMFBY 2025: ₹3200 Crore Crop Insurance Credited to 30 Lakh Farmers
The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) continues to be a lifeline for Indian farmers. On August 11, 2025, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan digitally transferred ₹3200 crore in crop insurance claims to the bank accounts of 30 lakh farmers across India.
🌾 What Is PMFBY?
Launched in 2016, PMFBY is a government-backed crop insurance scheme that protects farmers against losses due to:
- Natural disasters (floods, droughts, hailstorms)
- Pest attacks and diseases
- Unseasonal rainfall and other climate-related risks
Farmers pay a minimal premium:
- 2% for Kharif crops
- 1.5% for Rabi crops
- 5% for commercial/horticultural crops
The remaining premium is subsidized by the central and state governments.
📊 2025 Updates
- The scheme’s registration deadline has been extended:
- Non-loanee farmers: August 14, 2025
- Loanee farmers: August 30, 2025
- ₹11,000 crore in claims have been approved for crop losses between January and June 2025, with ₹8000 crore to be disbursed soon.

📢 Minister’s Assurance
Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan emphasized transparency and accountability. If insurance companies or state governments delay payments, they will be required to pay 12% interest, which will go directly to farmers.
