📰 PMFBY 2025: ₹3200 Crore Crop Insurance Credited to 30 Lakh Farmers

The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) continues to be a lifeline for Indian farmers. On August 11, 2025, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan digitally transferred ₹3200 crore in crop insurance claims to the bank accounts of 30 lakh farmers across India.

🌾 What Is PMFBY?

Launched in 2016, PMFBY is a government-backed crop insurance scheme that protects farmers against losses due to:

  • Natural disasters (floods, droughts, hailstorms)
  • Pest attacks and diseases
  • Unseasonal rainfall and other climate-related risks

Farmers pay a minimal premium:

  • 2% for Kharif crops
  • 1.5% for Rabi crops
  • 5% for commercial/horticultural crops

The remaining premium is subsidized by the central and state governments.

📊 2025 Updates

  • The scheme’s registration deadline has been extended:
    • Non-loanee farmers: August 14, 2025
    • Loanee farmers: August 30, 2025
  • ₹11,000 crore in claims have been approved for crop losses between January and June 2025, with ₹8000 crore to be disbursed soon.
